Typing Speed Test (WPM)
Measure your net words per minute, raw WPM, CPM, and keystroke accuracy in real time with 15s, 30s, 60s, or 2-minute tests on words, quotes, punctuation, and code.

How Net WPM, Raw WPM & Typing Accuracy Are Calculated
The Standard 5-Character Word
Typing tests count every 5 keystrokes (including spaces) as one word. This keeps results comparable whether you type short words like “the” or long words like “development”.
Net WPM vs. Raw WPM
Raw WPM = all typed characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Net WPM counts only correctly typed characters, so uncorrected mistakes lower your score—the figure employers use.
Keystroke Accuracy
Accuracy = (total keystrokes − wrong keystrokes) ÷ total keystrokes. Fixing an error with Backspace restores net WPM, but the original mistake still counts against accuracy. Aim for 95%+.
Frequently Asked Questions — Typing Speed Test
What is a good typing speed in WPM?
The average adult types about 40 WPM. 60 WPM is considered fluent and above average, 80+ WPM is professional level, and 100+ WPM places you among the fastest typists. Most office jobs ask for 40–60 WPM at 95% accuracy or higher.
How is WPM calculated in this typing test?
Net WPM = (correctly typed characters ÷ 5) ÷ elapsed minutes. Raw WPM uses all typed characters including mistakes. The timer starts on your first keystroke and stops when time runs out or you finish the passage.
Which test duration should I choose?
Use 60 seconds for a standard benchmark comparable to job typing tests. 15–30 second tests measure burst speed, while 2-minute tests better reflect sustained endurance and consistency.
How can I increase my typing speed?
Learn touch typing on the home row (ASDF JKL;), keep your eyes on the screen, prioritise accuracy over speed, and practise 10–15 minutes daily. Most learners gain 5–10 WPM per month with consistent practice.
